VICTORIA - An hour before dawn, at four o'clock in the morning, hundreds of people began their march along an almost 64 kilometre stretch of historical logging road on Vancouver Island. It is called the 'Great Walk' and is billed as "North America's toughest pledge walk". With a route running from Gold River to Tahsis along one of the most rugged and beautiful locations in Canada, participants travel the scheduled sixteen-hour marathon in the name of charitable organizations and raise donations to go to those noble causes. For the 29th consecutive, men and women gathered from all over to demonstrate their endurance.

Anthony Macauley Associate's (AMA) principals, Chief Executive Officer Jon Punnett and Chief Operations Officer Bob MacDonald, were among those to rise in the early morning to make the long march. It was Jon's third time on the Great Walk and Bob's first attempt. Joining them on their journey was John Minkley, a local lawyer who specializes in assistance for the handicapped and has a long history of association with AMA beginning in 1998 with the Claire Project, now part of the University of Victoria's Assistive Technology Team.
Bob MacDonald achieved his goal of reaching the halfway mark of Great Walk, arriving at an average of 4.6 km/h. At just over thirteen and half hours-and 63.5 kilometres--Jon Punnet arrived at the end of the gravel road in Tahsis to the welcome finishing bell.
